<h4>Deadlines for event applications</h4>
<p>The SW Secretariat will operate four deadlines based on PR considerations.</p>
<p><strong>1st deadline</strong>: March 21, 2012<br />
Information on planned events will be posted on the SW2012 website in early April.</p>
<p><strong>2nd deadline</strong>: April 25, 2012<br />
Participants desiring information on their events to be included in the first edition of 30,000 pamphlets to be distributed in Japan and abroad in June are requested to apply by this date. Otherwise, the information will be included in the second edition.</p>
<p><strong> 3rd deadline</strong>: July 25, 2012<br />
Information on events for which applications are submitted after this deadline will be posted only on the website; it will not be included in any of the pamphlets to be published by the SW Secretariat.</p>
<p><strong> 4th deadline</strong>: September 12, 2012<br />
Events for which applications are made after this date will not be publicized either in pamphlets or on the website.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="h3">Application Guidelines for Hokkaido University Sustainability Weeks Logo Design</p>
<p><strong>1. Objective<br />
</strong>The Sustainability Weeks is a campaign hosted by Hokkaido University (HU) with the aim of discussing the creation of a sustainable society. Since its inauguration in 2007, various events such as symposiums, lectures and workshops have been held annually during the two-week-long program. As part of our efforts to prepare for the Sustainability Weeks 2012 ? the 6th such event, we call for submissions of logo designs to further promote the Sustainability Weeks program. The grand prize winning logo design will be used for a range of Sustainability Weeks events, on related publicity materials, and on other occasions.<br />

<p><strong>2. About logo design submissions<br />
</strong>Submissions should capture the three concepts of the Sustainability Weeks program outlined below.<br />
(1) Cultivation of life for a brighter future<br />
(2) Creation of a society offering quality of life and human dignity in harmony with the natural environment<br />
(3) Provision of an open global platform for exchanges that encourages people to come together from around the world</p>
<p>Applicants are also asked to consider the following three characteristics of HU:<br />
(a) Frontier spirit<br />
(b) Practical learning<br />
(c) Institution for higher education to serve as a driving force to achieve sustainability</p>

<p><strong>3. Submission rules<br />
</strong>The logo should include both the program name “Sustainability Weeks” and the university name “Hokkaido University” to clarify that Hokkaido University is the host of the program.<br />
・ Either a black-and-white or colored logo is acceptable, but the submission should be able to be used in monochrome. Special or fluorescent colors should not be used, but the use of color gradation is allowed.<br />
・ The logo should be legible when reduced in size.<br />
・ The logo should be either handwritten or printed on white A4 paper. The top of the logo design should be indicated using an upward arrow (↑).<br />
・ One sheet of A4 paper should include only one logo.<br />
・ In case of submission in digital form, the logo should be a minimum height and width of 500 pixels and in JPEG, GIF, PNG or BMP format. Entries should be submitted on CD-R or DVD-R disk media.<br />
・ The inclusion of the logo data in Illustrator format (.ai) on the same disk media is appreciated.<br />
・ All submissions must be original and unpublished works created by the entrants. They must not infringe on copyrights, trademarks or other intellectual property rights of third parties.<br />
・ The organizers may partially modify the selected logo design.<br />
・ Submissions will not be returned.</p>
<p><strong>4. Submission period<br />
</strong>・ March 15 &#8211; April 25, 2012</p>
<p><strong>5. Eligibility<br />
</strong>・ Both professionals and amateurs are welcome, but applicants must share the belief in the importance of sustainability with HU.</p>

</strong>・ Fill out the designated application form and send it and your submission by mail or e-mail.<br />
・ The application form (in Microsoft Word format) is downloadable from the link below.<br />

<p><strong>7. Prizes<br />
</strong>(1) Grand prize (one design)<br />
The winning logo design will be used for a range of Sustainability Weeks events, on related publicity materials, and on other occasions.<br />
As an additional prize, the winner will be invited to an award ceremony scheduled at HU in October 2012 (travel and accommodation expenses to be paid by HU). An award certificate will be presented to the winner at the ceremony. If the winner does not want the additional prize (for example, because they reside near the HU Sapporo Campus), they will be presented with original HU goods instead.</p>
<p>(2) Frontier Spirit awards (several designs)<br />
Other than the grand prize, the Frontier Spirit awards will be given to outstanding logo designs submitted by high school students or those aged younger. The winners will be presented an award certificate and original HU goods as an additional prize.</p>
<p>Notes:<br />
・ No prize money will be awarded.<br />
・ In the event none of the entries is determined to be satisfactory, there may be no winning logo design.</p>
<p><strong>8. Selection<br />
</strong>The Sustainability Weeks Logo Review Committee will review all applications fairly and thoroughly.</p>
<p><strong>9. Award announcement<br />
</strong>Award winners will be notified in early May 2012, and winners will also be announced on the website below.<br />

<p><strong>10. Handling of personal information<br />
</strong>The personal information provided to HU through your submission is properly managed and is never used for purposes other than to review submissions and announce winners.</p>
<p><strong>11. Handling of copyrights<br />
</strong>・ All rights including copyrights to the logo designs winning the Grand Prize and the Frontier Spirit awards (incl. the rights set forth in Articles 27 and 28 of the Copyright Act) shall belong to National University Corporation Hokkaido University.<br />
・ The winners shall receive the additional prize described in these application guidelines in compensation for the rights transferred to HU.<br />
・ The organizers may partially modify the selected logo design.</p>
